Salty Sweet

Sailor, dear,

I’ve never loved the sea

but you searched the ground,

found something,

found me.

Clear and clean,

the chest was a mess of rocks and gems.

Soft to the touch,

impurity sewed into the hem.

Sailor, love,

we sailed far away from the heart of me,

so far away, I couldn’t retrace.

I could almost sleep,

lost in the rocking,

but woke, choking on the phantom sea.

Sailor sweet,

take me back to the earth,

don’t you see?

I’m pure in its impurity.

Soft soil,

a soft bed to rest.

Your love was salty sweet,

but the waves terrify me.

Take me home,

take me back to me.
